Filos Community Services has been appointed by the SG Cares Office, under the Ministry of Culture, Community & Youth (MCCY), as the SG Cares Volunteer Centre @ Bedok since March 2019.
As an SG Cares Volunteer Centre, we aim to:
The SG Cares VC @ Bedok works with appointed Active Ageing Centres and ComLink+ in Bedok town to curate volunteering opportunities for individuals, groups, schools and corporate partners. We link them up with community partners with programmes matching their interests and skill sets.
Some of the areas we render support in include:
SG Cares VC @Bedok supports Active Ageing Centres (AACs) in Bedok town through recruiting suitable volunteers to contribute to AACs’ outreach efforts, Active Ageing Programmes and Buddy & Befriending Programmes. We also recruit family befrienders for ComLink+.
Filos also organises networking sessions with Active Ageing Centres to share best practices and brainstorm solutions to common challenges. This is also a platform for agencies to gather and discuss opportunities for collaboration.
Filos also works with individual and group volunteers to co-organise, plan and initiate projects to better serve and meet the needs of our community. Some of our current school and corporate partners include RHB Bank, Bloomberg, Edrington, Woh Hup Pte Ltd, Singapore University of Social Sciences, Victoria Junior College and Temasek Polytechnic.
Volunteering in the neighbourhood can both engage residents and allow them to contribute directly to strengthening the community that they are a part of, creating impact in an area closest to their heart.
As part of Filos' effort to build a sustainable pool of volunteers to better serve beneficiaries in Bedok town, Filos conducts regular Volunteer Recruitment Talks. At the talks, participants are introduced to the ground needs in Bedok town, the volunteer opportunities available and tips to get them started on their volunteering journey.
Filos also partners Active Ageing Centres in Bedok town to introduce seniors to the benefits of volunteering and different ways they can contribute to their community.
Collaborations with schools, corporates and religious organisations in the vicinity makes it easier for employees and students to make volunteering a part of their everyday lives. This not only fosters a greater sense of connection to the community, it also ensures sustainable support for those in need.
Our Medical Escort Volunteer Programme was set up to meet the needs of seniors who are not able to go for medical appointments on their own. Filos engages a pool of volunteers to assist seniors in Bedok town in getting to and from their medical appointments safely.
We co-designed the scheme and have been running it since 2019 to reduce the financial burden of eligible individuals who require transportation for medical visits. The scheme is coordinated and administered in collaboration with other community partners in Bedok town.
We work with our partners, such as Changi General Hospital and Health Promotion Board, skills-based volunteers and experienced professionals to provide regular training for our volunteers to better equip them on their volunteering journey.
In collaboration with partners, including MOH Office for Healthcare Transformation (MOHT), the SG Cares VC @ Bedok has launched a Bedok town e-directory for sector practitioners to easily access information on nearby services, resources and toolkits to better serve their clients.
